Runners & Rugs

A hallway runner takes the brunt of muddy boots, wet umbrellas and the daily school run, while also stopping a long hall from feeling bare and echoey. The right rug protects your floor and makes the entrance feel warm straight away.Measure the length and width of your hall, then allow around 10 to 15 cm of floor showing on each side. Common runner sizes such as 60 x 180 cm or 65 x 180 cm suit many UK terraces and semis, and two shorter runners suit a very long hall. Non-slip rubber backing is essential on wood, laminate and tiles. Low-pile and flatweave rugs are the easiest to keep clean and won’t catch under the front door, and machine-washable runners are a real bonus with kids or dogs. Thick shaggy runners show wear faster, so suit quieter landings.Read our hallway runner guide, or browse more hallway textiles and soft furnishings.
