Hallway ceiling lights do the heavy lifting in a space that rarely gets much daylight. Many UK hallways have fairly low ceilings, so flush and semi-flush fittings sit close to the ceiling and keep heads clear, while pendants, chandeliers and Sputnik-style fittings suit taller entrances and stairwells with room to hang. Check the bulb type: fittings that take E27 bulbs let you choose your own brightness and colour, and integrated LED designs often offer dimming and adjustable colour temperature by remote.
